Phoebe: “THE HECK YOU MEAN YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND? I SAID RANDOM CRAP IN COURT AND GOT HUNG BECAUSE I TOOK SOME __(freak)__-ING BREAD?!”

George: “Yeah basically”

Script Scenes 1-3

Scene 1: Ext. Sky; Int. Log Cabin

The camera shows the sky. It is early dawn, just before the sun has risen. A loud gunshot is heard, and the camera pans down onto a log cabin.

Through the window, two shadowy figures stand with an axe in hand. A man, George, is on the floor, begging for his life.

George: “Oh god, no please – AGHAHAAGAHAGAHA!!!...”

The camera suddenly pans back up. There are squelchy hacking sounds. George dies.

A few hours later, police officers are at the scene. The Sheriff has just arrived, and has caught sight of George’s corpse.

Sheriff: “What in tarnation...?”

Random Cop: “George Campbell. Age 31. Murdered with an axe just this morning. His wife, Phoebe Campbell’s right o’er there, we haven’t questioned her yet.”

The Sheriff heads toward Phoebe.

Sheriff: “I know it’s a hard time for you right now Mrs. Campbell, but I’ll need you to explain what you saw.”

Phoebe: [Monotone] “Oh, it was horrible, Mr. Sheriff. I watched as these two men just broke into our house and demanded our money. They shot a gun and missed but used an axe to cut up my dear husband.”

Sheriff: “I… I see.” <Her husband was just murdered and she’s acting like everythin's nice n' dandy… this woman’s cold as hell!>

Phoebe: “Will that be all, Mr. Sheriff?”

Sheriff: “Yes, of course. We’ll find out who killed your husband, Mrs. Campbell.”

Scene 2: Int. Log Cabin

Flashback a few hours earlier. A shadowy figure is laying on the ground.

George: “Ow… that hurt… wait, where am I?”

George looks around. He jumps as he catches sight of what is right beside him.

George: “AGHAHAAGAHAGAHA!!!”

The object beside George is his corpse. George sees Phoebe crying nearby, and also sees the bloodied axe a few meters away from her.

George: “Yes… I see, I’m a ghost now! This means… this means I can get revenge on my wife!”

Phoebe continues to sob.

George: “Boo.”

Phoebe: *Screaming sfx* “G-George...? What… are you a ghost!?”

George: “Seems so. But I need your help to ascend to Heaven! I have unfinished business on the mortal plane. It was too dark to see who killed me, but at this rate, you’ll be blamed for my murder!

Phoebe glances at the axe suspiciously.

Phoebe: “Oh, yes, of course! We can’t have that!”

George: “Well, you’ll have to do and say exactly what I tell you…”

Scene 3: Int. Police Station

Random Cop: “Damn it. Even after a month, we still have no leads.”

The cops in the room murmur amongst themselves. The Sheriff is in deep thinking.

Sheriff: *Minecraft villager sfx*

Random Cop: “Somethin’ on your mind, Sheriff?”

Sheriff: “Yeah... somthin’ ain’t right about this case. Little ol’ Mrs. Campbell just watched, and didn’t try to do anything to save her husband?”

Random Cop: “Well, they did have a gun and axe. It’s understandable if she was scared.”

Sheriff: “Doesn’t explain why she’s cold as ice. She barely reacted to her husband’s death, even at the funeral, after which she was chatting it up with Thomas Coyle, George’s farmhand. Either she’s happily being paid visits by Mr. Campbell’s ghost, or, more likely, she’s involved with his murder.”

Random Cop: “… Is that what you really think, Sheriff? You’ve never been wrong before, but this seems a little far-fetched…”

Other Random Cop: “Sheriff! The coroner sent you a letter for the autopsy of George Campbell.”

The cop gives the Sheriff the letter. He opens it. It says: “It’s definitely Phoebe and Thomas don’t ask how I know. P.S. I’m definitely the coroner and not a ghost possessing his body.”

Sheriff: “Well that settles it. Phoebe Campbell and Thomas Coyle are now our prime suspects. Bring Phoebe Campbell here for questioning.”

10 Minutes Later

Phoebe: “You wanted to see me, Mr. Sheriff?”

Sheriff: “There’s been some new evidence, Mrs. Campbell. The coroner says you n’ Thomas Coyle had somethin’ to do with your husband’s death. What say you?"

Phoebe: <Wha-what!? How?? George, what do I say??>

George is snacking on some police donuts

George: <Mhm.. hm? Oh, uh, say that it was your cousin or his wife or something..>

George continues to leisurely snack on donuts

Phoebe: “Well, Mr. Sheriff, I think it must have been my cousin! He’s always up to no good, and his wife is a conniving hornswaggler!" [real 19th century insult]

Sheriff: “Uh huh… I see…”

Two cinematic black bars emerge from the top and bottom to cover the screen, leaving only the Sheriff’s eyes (dark void?) visible.

Phoebe: <It worked! Good job, George!>

George: <Yep, yay me.>
